The Cartographer, a recently-released iPhone app that combines antique cartography styling, custom Google My Maps viewing and editing, and offline maps, has proven highly popular. Featured recently in Apple's "New and Noteworthy" section of the iPhone App Store, this is the essential tool for people who need and want more than the native map app delivers.

Boasting a highly polished design and unique user interface, The Cartographer has received a glowing reception from the design and developer community. MacStories, an online authority on all things Apple recently wrote, "What could ever happen if art as we know it joined Apple's design as an app for the iPhone? I'm pretty sure something like The Cartographer for iPhone would happen. A simple app that turns Google Maps into a beautiful experience based on the maps that once were."

Travelers have also received the app enthusiastically. Keith Savage of leading travel blog Traveling Savage said, "The Cartographer is a worthy addition to the traveler's app arsenal. It's beautiful and provides a unique feature set."

The Cartographer tightly integrates with Google My Maps: Tools that allow users to customize Google maps with markers. Users of The Cartographer can do all their travel planning on the desktop with Google My Maps and the resulting maps can be effortlessly accessed and edited on the iPhone. The Cartographer embraces collaboration and sharing, allowing travelers to share entire maps or individual markers with fellow travelers or friends and family back home. Users can also access their customised maps offline, an essential component for leisure and business travelers alike. The iPhone app offers users the ability to:

Plan Trips:
* Plan trips on the desktop by plotting vacation ideas or errand details on Google My Maps

Execute Trips:
* Sync Google My Maps with the iPhone
* Avoid data and roaming charges with offline maps

Record Trip Information:
* Drop markers as you travel to remember your adventures

Share Trip Information:
* Share your trip with friends and family via email and Twitter

Version 1.1 of The Cartographer, now available on the iPhone App Store, brings bulk downloading of offline maps, powered by the ever-evolving community-based Open Street Map project. This allows whole map regions to be downloaded in advance, down to a user-specified level of detail, and viewed offline when Internet access is unavailable. often-requested features now available in Version 1.1 include searching the map and bulk publishing of placemarks.

The Cartographer runs on the iPad and iPod touch, but it is not specifically designed for these devices. Pseudo-GPS positioning is available only near some wifi spots. Similarly, positioning on the first generation iPhone is limited to cellular and wifi.

Pricing and Availability:
Cartographer 1.1 is $3.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Travel category.
