Google has unveiled its new cloud music locker called 'Music Beta by Google'.
The service will store all your music files in the cloud. Using a music manager program for both Windows and Mac you can upload your songs to the new service. The music manager program lets you select your entire iTunes library for upload and will keep your playlists and meta data intact.
Music Beta also offers a full featured media manager on the web. The media manager lets you create playlists that are automatically available across all devices. You can also build a playlist that is automatically generated based on any song you like. This feature is called 'Instant Mix'.
Google demonstrated applications for Android phones and tablets. Recently played music is automatically cached on the device and you can select specific albums, playlists and artists you'd like to make available offline.
Music Beta is being rolled out starting today. While in beta the service is free and will let you upload up to 20,000 songs. Invites are being sent to select U.S. users first. You can request an invite at the link below...
Don't you think if you upload 20,000 songs...
these cloud services will suspect that you may not have paid for all that music?
Thus this being a new way to crack down on illegal downloads?
I'd rather manage my own music and videos where I have the control and don't have to worry about network connection or ISPs complaining about data usage. Cloud is a fun theory, but not very practical, at least in the next years to come, IMHO
If anyone has an invite I'll gladly accept it. Streamed just announced they were shutting down their servers today because google, apple, amazon and all these other companies have their own clouds going up. It's a shame. I lost unlimited bandwidth and uploads on my cloud to these pay for space services.
