A new photo of the mini dock connector port shows a metal ring that may function as a magnetic attachment mechanism.
iLounge recently reported that the "new connector will feature other design innovations, potentially including the ability to be connected to docks and cables in either orientation (like MagSafe)."
Nowehereelse.fr today posted the photo seen below that shows a metal ring on the inside of the port appearing to corroborate this prediction.
References in iOS 6 may have revealed that the mini dock connector has 9 pins as opposed to 19 or 8 as previously thought.

Is it just me who has an issue with the iPhone/ iPod syncing cables where they break on the ends and eventually just stop working.. Why don't they fix this?

Wait a minute! I can't believe my crossed eyes. Isn't the mocked up iPhone 5 wider than the 4/4s?

I sure do hope it's a bit wider. Won't look as elongated as I thought.

How cares how many pins it has? All we know is that existing connectors will be obsolete.
