Apple to Release Four New Lightning Adapters, Higher Power iPad Adapter Coming

9to5mac has obtained the part numbers, description, and pricing on six new accessories that will be coming today thanks to the Apple event scheduled in a few hours.

Four new Lightning adapters are planned to be released by Apple: HDMI and VGA adapters, which were previously promised to arrive, as well as Lightning editions of the SD card and USB camera adapters.

Also in the parts list is a new 12 Watt USB power adapter, slightly different than the 10 Watt USB power adapter sold with the current iPad. The higher wattage is being sold with the refreshed iPad for faster charging times, since the iPad has such a large battery.

Finally, there is a 60W Magsafe 2 Adapter, which is obviously for the 13" Macbook Pro. The current 13" Macbook has a 60W adapter, while the 15" has an 85W adapter. Earlier this year, Apple released Magsafe 2 85W adapter for the Macbook Air, which the retina Macbook adopted.

I wonder what reasons people have for staying within the Apple ecosystem?

If I stay with my iPhone I can keep my AT&T unlimited data plan. I don't see a need for iPads though, no matter the size. I do wish I knew about the microchips in these adapters earlier though. Figured we'd get knockoff adapters sooner rather than later. Amazing how much effort was forced into that rather than being useful to the consumer.

Lightning is useful for consumers. It is beneficial to have an all programmable interface. The truth is that it is all digital; any device can negotiate what it needs from the adapter. One thing we see today for example is a 20% faster charger. This is possible since Lightning is programmable. OEM adapters: Let's see how much cheaper they are. Look at Thunderbolt: OEM versions are within 10% of Apple's prices. It is expensive to produce quality hardware.
