Apple's rumored entry-level iPhone could use a plastic chassis to save on costs, according to DigiTimes' supply chain sources.
The rumor in the supply chain is that the inexpensive iPhone chassis supplier will reportedly be a US-based electronic manufacturing service (EMS) provider.
However, other rumors are circulating that the entry-level iPhone will adopt a chassis mixed with plastic and metal, with the internal metal parts being able to be seen from outside through special design, the sources noted.
The site's sources say that upstream components for the entry-level iPhone are going through validation now and the device could be released in the second half of 2013.
The WSJ, Bloomberg, and DigiTimes have all reported that the company plans to release a low cost iPhone this year to address emerging markets.

I suggest making another line up iphone XL with larger screen, along with the existing size. Customer's choice of screen.

I heard that all these low quality phones will be boxed unlocked and jail broken with Cydia. Cudos to Cydia for snagging that mega dollar contract.

Phil Schiller: Cheaper Smartphones Will Never Be the Future of Apple's Products

Exactly. It came from the main source, being Apple, that it will never happen. But year after year these "inside sources" say the same shit over and over again. Sometimes i think its Either it's a ploy by other companies to downgrade Apple or By these fan sites just to get hits on their sites. Like I personally say year after year I won't believe it until I see it announced and shown on stage.

I agree they need to start thinking more like Steve did, but theres no way they'll go bankrupt any time soon or even in the next ten years. They have more cash on hand than any other company out their and even the US Government.

the Apple fall wiil happen soon, without technology enovation they will be not able to sustain themselves. the Apple fans, like me, never question the price of the product. we just knew, we will get the best on the market, technology, design, performance, security and atraction. but now??? i question myselve 5 times before i buy, upgrade something from Apple. in 2012 it was the first year i did not spend 0,01 € with Apple, and 2013 looks will go in the same direction ...

Think about it! - January 15, 2013 at 5:35am
Apple needs to step back and take a moment to think what would Steve do? Apple's business model worked so well before. It will be sad to see such an amazing company run back into the ground without the leadership of Steve Jobs. Steve planned well into the future. Current Apples seems to be planning for the now.
