I have a brand new touch that I want to jailbreak. I understand that blackra1n will only work on those which were made before week 40, ie the serial number has 4th and 5th digits of 39 or less. Jailbreaking with blackra1n on models with serials 40 or above (mine is 48) will require the unit to be tethered and blackra1n run every time it is turned on. This is simply not worth the hassle! So firstly, does anyone know if the voltage software will jailbreak without the tethering issue, and secondly, if id does can someone point me in the direction of a working download link? The voltage download doesn't work and I can't find any working alternatives. Can someone who has it, and the custom firmware post a working download link, or if not send me them? I'd be extremely grateful.

I'm having a lot of trouble installing the libUSB. Done everything it told me to do and even tried it the Vista way. (I'm windows 7). Also, when i get to "Make IPSW" I click it, it does the black window thing then closes 3 seconds later. I try to click next step but it says "Custom IPSW not found" any help? D:

I got stuck at step 13. Error 1601 appeared after restoring it with "custom restore". I 've been doing da same thing in that instruction. What did I missed?

This guide is getting old now. OS 3.0 is out and that is something you should upgrade to. there are jail breaking tutorials over the internet for that and they are way easier. I have used this method, it works but the new jailbreaks called red snow is way easier. Google it.

Ola, eu realizei os passos até colocar em DFU, só que não consegui e desliguei o computador... no outro dia quando liguei estava lendo pra caramba, travando sabe... apaguei os arquivos que reconheci da instalação, mas o computador continua lendo, Vc sabe me dizer o faço para voltar ao normal???? I completed the tethered jailbreak and my ipod is working fine already. but when i turned it off it does not want to turn on again. is this a normal behavior? do i have to repeat the process again?

I tried the instructions on the web page and the device would not re boot at the end of the process. Then the Itouch just died and displayed Unknown USB device. Eventually, I got the thing back to life and restored the original firmware 2.2.1 Can someone 'clarify' if the llb.img patched file that is downloaded should replace and overwrite the existing llb.img file in the firmware/all_flash folder? Coz the downloaded patch llb file has a [1] in the file name......if someone from iclarified can 'clarify, it will be much appreciated :-)

Hi, I did manage to restore the original firmware on the ipod and it works as normal. Considering I've only just purchased it I'm reluctant to try jailbreaking the itouch for fear of being unable to restore at all..... I managed to recover from the 'USD Device unrecognised' message through going into device manager on the laptop and removing the USB entry and trying again, somehow I managed to get the laptop to recognise the itouch and load up itunes once I had removed the USB device in 'Device Manager'. Since then, I'm off the idea of jail breaking for now until I'm bored of the itouch.

Hey man ye i got the same problem with my itouch 2g with the usb not recodnised after doing the whole pwnage thing. and because i am not a computer tech can u explain to me in simple steps how you got ur itouch to be recodnised again? that would b really awesome. cheers

im at the part where you have to select the ipsw but it is taaking forever, there is a a cricle of black cicles just rotating over moving file....

Worked Great!!!!! At first I got the "ERROR1604". All you have to do is get your ipod in DFU Mode, patch it, then restore it in itunes with the restore_firmware.ipsw. Once that is done, let it boot up. Then put it in DFU mode again and patch it again. Then go back into itunes and restore the ipod with the custom_restore.ipsw. Thankyou

in step 7 i cant seem to find the firmware under voltage "iPod2,1_2.2.1_5H11a_Restore" the icon of a white box with a note sign where will i beble to download that?

I had error 1604. If you have the sam one then you can try to jailbreak again from the start or downgrade iTunes to 8.1.1. (You will lost library and backup of your iPod) (Uninstall iTunes and then install iTunes 8.1.1. (http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php) I hope it will help.

Yeah so when I go to rename the Custom_Restore.ipsw (to add the .zip), the file extension doesn't show up, so what ends up happening is Custom_Restore.zip.ipsw... which will not open with winrar. No matter what i do it always slaps .ipsw on the end of it.... Anyone have any ideas? would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I had same problem, but then i figuered it out. I am using Windows 7 RC so it's problably diffrent way. 1. Open Windows Explorer ( just a single map, like Pwnage )or documents...) 2. Organize -> Folder and search options -> View 3. Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types

hey guys i did jailbreak my Touch 2.2.1 without a problem, however i cant seem to reboot the touch manually. It has to use the voltage booter everytime. (i did load the LLB.n72ap.RELEASED.im3 & follow the tutorial step by step) what am i missing here?

Hi I have a problem: First it was difficult to put my 1st generation iTouch in DFU mode, but I finally did it. but now, Voltage didn't reconize my iTouch as in DFU, besides iTune did!! An idea?

Wow, i found were all the apps are in Cydia. I take everything back, this is awesome! I installed Doom the game just right now. Later, gonna keep on adding stuff!!!

As i said before, i could do the Jailbreak.. but i want to apply a Theme to my Winterboard and i cant find them on Cydia or Installer. I'm about to Restore my Ipod back to normal, because i dont see what's all the fuss. This Jailbreak seems useless. Inside Cydia, there are some things that dont even work at all, they appear empty. So whats so special about this Jailbreak thing? Do you have to activate something else for the Themes to appear in Installer?

Hi mate, just do a little bit more research before younsay anything on these forums. You need to install all sources in cydia and it will give you access to shit loads more apps. Or you can go to piratebay and downloads other apple aps. I just instaled need for speed, monopoly, quick office and so on. I got about 20 most expensive apps on apple store for free coz my iPod is jailbroken. You can also run sega, ps1 and other game emulators. There is so much more you can do with jailbroken iPod other than install cydia and change themes. If anyone needs helps email me at nzcutejat@yahoo.com

After i click on make ipsw in voltage i then click next step and it gives me this message Custom IPSW not found. Please follow the instructions above. Does anyone know what to do?????????????

It Worked for me on my 2nd Gen Ipod Touch. I got an error the 1st time around.. on the Restore part. But then i read someone's comment that said to try again and put it in DFU Mode, and then Patch it, and then Restore it.. and guess what.. IT WORKED.

Went through the entire process "Unable to restrore ERROR 1641 what a waste of time !

how can we keep repatching it as u said....tat first patch it then restore original firmware....then reboot. then go to dfu mode then repatch...then install the custom firmware....how to keep repatching???

Hey! guys I'm oon xp sp 3 When I try to make the custom ispw the ms-dos thing appears for just 3-4 seconds and then automatically closes!! when i click on next, it says that custom ispw did not found, please try again with the steps above!!!! in short i am not able to make the custom ispw when i followed all the above steps!!!

O Fiirmware criado "Custom_Restore.ipsw" foi reconhecido pelo iTunes, efetuou todo o processo. No momento de reiniciar o iPod touch 2G, o aparelho simplesmente desligou e não liga mais. Nem tentando colocar o mesmo em modo DFU. O que devo fazer agora? Nem mesmo o computador reconhece a conexão USB, diz que o dispositivo é desconhecido. Aguardo retorno...

Ok In voltage the option that tells you the ipod needs to be booted gose fine and then my touch never boots it stays in dfu mode... I try to write the custom ispw and itunes tells me the file is not compatible... Some one please help thanks

i did everything that was said and i got this thing going the very first time. just have patience and do what they tell you to do. thanks a lot to whoever did this. you are a genius. for those who haven't got it working and are swearing at the guide, use that thing called brain and do as they ask you to do. it has to be the simplest thing ever. thanks again

Works fine, thanks very much for tutorial!! In the beggining I got an error when applying new firm, but I guess it was because I didnt have Itunes installed before starting jailbreaking.

One of the files has a virus..

I tried it once again updating the itunes and still i get a diff. message when holding shift and clicking on restore. The Ipod could not be restored becose the firmware is not compatible. =(

try restoring your ipod without holding the shift button, and then restore it with the custom firmware, that worked for me.

Well i manage to restore it to old firmware, and i managed to jailbreak it using QuickPwn. wich was alot more easyer. Had to backup to firmware 2.2.0

Well i'm not a huge fan of quickpwn because of that damn pineapple logo.. when something fucks up, and you have to return it to the apple store, and they boot it up and see the pineapple they know for sure something ain't right..

I did everything untill the Restore holding shift part and i get an ERROR Ipod could not be restored. What can i do ??? =(
