Seven years ago Steve Jobs introduced the original iPhone, changing the phone and the industry forever. On January 9, 2007, after years of rumors and speculation, the iPhone was announced finally announced at the keynote address at the Macworld conference.

"I have been looking forward to this for two and a half years" Jobs said. Today, "Apple is going to reinvent the phone." The phone was locked to AT&T, had only 2G EDGE Service, and launched June 29, 2007. Many stores sold out within minutes even at the price point $499 for the 4GB version and $599 for the 8GB version. It would later reach 6,000,000 + sales at the time of its discontinuation.

Apple's (AAPL) stock was trading around $85 when the iPhone 2G was announced. It exceeded $700 five years later.

With the original iPhone, you were stuck with just a handful of stock apps, as Apple waited until iPhone OS 2.0 to introduce the SDK and unleash third-party applications. Today, the App Store is the most popular App Store with over three billion downloads a month.

Seven years later, the iPhone has a larger high-resolution screen, a front facing camera, fingerprint sensor, a greatly improved camera system and much more.

Take a look below at the video of the original announcement.

This was great. We miss Steve. Apple is still great since Steve left plans for up to five years after his passing. Luckily though, it's not just cell provider anymore. One thing though, the screen is not so big anymore. Haters stop coming in here to spew your hate and your dong. Go away.

pple has gone from an innovative company, to an ordinary company. The companies primary focus seems to be "how to sue Samsung" This is also reflected in margins

You mean innovative to creative, look at the Mac Pro of 2013, compare to the one that was made when jobs was alive, the only difference here is improvements because apple is nowadays unbeatable. They made an iOS many people upgraded immediately, they kept jobs' promise to make a 2nd campus, and they made the 1LB iPad air 2x powerful than before all without jobs.

To anyone saying "no more innovation after jobs died" how do you even know that first off? Jobs or no jobs, it's how apples products get better no matter who innovates it, look at the new Mac Pro for crying out loud, that's enough to understand why iPhone today is still popular for example, I have an iPad Air and I like it. If you watch the keynotes or search the benchmarks, you can see why Apple hasn't became crackberry at all.

Nat - How do we know it its simple. What has changed from the iPhone 5 to the 5S its still the same body, same functions, besides for the touch id, and camera improvements, its the same just the lens is difference, and moved up to a 64 bit and is faster, in terms of design, its the same crap. Innovation was made from the 3GS to the iPhone 4. Anyone that says that the iPhone 5 was made by Steve Jobs its not. Steve Jobs didnt make the iPhone 5. The screen was increased from .5 inches. 3.5 to 4.0. The ppi of the screen has been the same since the original iPhone 4, 326ppi. While the others like the other is going to 560ppi, thats innovation. Maybe to you , like most apple users are going to say 326ppi is enough, its not, if your case is true then its like me saying 1080p is enough, then why bother making 4K UHD TVs. The ppi is higher, therefore giving the image even a more lifelike image. from 1080p to 4K big difference. And the 64 bit is pretty much useless considering most apps all run at 32bit. Just for the OS and the some games. People want something they can customize and use and most important to show off, iPhone 5 is no different in design then the 5S only the button has a bezel and small changes. When the iPhone 4 came out, i was the most beautiful design in the smartphone, since then, other companies, got better with their designs. If you ask me, wait till the Samsung S5 comes out with metal body and you will see how nice it is. Its like saying this, would you rather have a PC that you can open up and upgrade and customize the way you want, or would you rather have a fixed box to use and thats not upgradable that you throw in the garbage. Watch I pretty much sure when the iPhone 6 comes out it will be like iPhone Air, thinner and smaller. Sorry to say but the iPhone 5 looks like a long sausage the screen is not even properly placed. And to pay 1000s dollars for a phone that its not even 720P screen is even more sad. Samsung will be the leader soon, wait and see, go check apple stocks they are going down big time. Why apple stands where it is today, its simple! The warranty and customer support is excellent they give you free brand new replacements. If they took that away, and did it like the rest, send out for repairs and all that, apple will tank like Blackberry is.
