So.... for ppl who dont fully understand this... Jay... this is real, iPhone 3GS has a few different models depending on where and when you bought it. For example, my iPhone 3GS is model # MC143C. I think what they are doing (Dev group) is fantastic! I think its better for now that they are building the pwnage tool before redsn0w because there are a lot of ppl who want to upgrade but keep their unlocked status. I don't mind either way, as long as jailbreak is a possibility. At the same time, 3.0.1 is also fine with me. 3.1 doesn't have enough features to really be worth all the trouble. At least thats my opinion anyways.

But the problem is, pwnage tool is only for Mac OS X, not for windows. And does not support the ipod touch 2g/3g. redsn0w supports all of the ipods/iphones except for the 3g ipod touch and all os's.

The problem with 3.1 now is that a lot of apps coming out on the app store are starting to require 3.1 to install/use. Otherwise I'd agree there's not a lot of reason to move to 3.1.

Thats true, i noticed that too in the app store As for pwnage tool only being available on mac, I can see the prob there cause there are more windows users using an iPhone then OSX. There is a version of OSX that works on a windows pc.. you can either install it in VMWARE or as a dual boot (so you dont loose your windows partition). I, myself have a mac, but I normally end up restoring on a pc anways.

it's better for us to wait because : 1. this new firmware doesn't provide a lot just some improvements . 2. there are many problems with this firmware even people who use the clean one and don't JB their iphones .

Hi, i am having a 2G iphone and i want to know when will it be jailbreaked for the OS 3.1 on windows. i have google searched it and most of the users who tried to jailbreak using custom files are getting errors.

I believe the guy is asking for the 3.1 jailbreak on windows not the 3.0.x.... I have a 3G and really would love to upgrade to 3.1 and jailbreak it to use the MMS and whatnot. Anyone got any idea when the windows jailbreak for 3.1 will be out?

and the modem 5.77 ???? I actually has an Iphone from factory with 3.1 and modem 5.77, so this will not work for me, beside I will continue using my SE W810, Until I can use my iphone to make calls, of course I want to use applications, but the main idea of a phone is to make calls...sooooo, then I sell it and get an Ipod touch...

You can jailbreak it but you can't unlock it...

Agreed, I would like to see em work on the redsnow for 3GS and 3G as that pwnage tool is somewhat flaky depending on your phone carrier but the redsnow works on everyones carrier. That and redsnow is a little easier to use at least i find.

If you use custom firmware the baseband won't be updated. If you update/restore with official apple firmware the baseband will be updated.

whatever. I've seen a few proofs of JB.... but no JB in the wild. we've moved passed "send a pic or it didn't happen" this is simply a response to other people putting their stuff out. Would be nice to see them leading again, rather than only releasing after others have. One could almost say that they are squashing competition? I don't really want to say... but at least what they release is stable and they update if issues are found.

Look carefully Jay. One says O2 and the other AT&T. It shows both phones on different carriers using 3.1 firmware but without the updated baseband. This confirms that the phone can be updated using a custom firmware preserving the baseband for an unlock. It also shows the phone can be jailbroken.

it looks as though they upgraded the firmware without upgrading the baseband. So you're not upgrading to 3.1 the same way you do with itunes. This will skip the baseband update. So that means it's the same baseband (as long as you haven't upgraded to 3.1 yet. if so then you're f**ked) so yes, same baseband means same unlock works.

This is just like the custom firmware 3.1 for the 3G except this is for the 3GS. They already said they're not working on the new baseband because it does not make sense to keep playing a cat and mouse game on every baseband update. This jailbreak is only for people who are on 3.0 or 3.01 and need to keep the unlock.

Does this jailbreak on a OTB 3.1 3GS with the updated modem? :( If not then I'm stuck

I am traveling overseas in few months and I am on official AT&T iPhone contract. I was hoping that I can jailbreak and unlock my 3GS with 3.1 for the duration the trip but that does not seem to be possible so far. Unless they release an update that can jailbreak and unlock the iPhone 3GS with the undated baseband I will be using my old phone for the trip.
