Finger Arts Releases Guess the News 1.5.1

Finger Arts has announced Guess the News 1.5.1, an update to their word based game for iPhone and iPod touch. Designed specifically to leverage the iPhone's peerless capabilities and interface, Guess the News is a unique news-based word game where players guess the latest news from major news sources.

A wonderful alternative to other word games, such as Crosswords, Scrabble, and Wheel of Fortune, Guess the News is fun, highly addictive and perfect for leisure or work breaks. Players simply choose a news section (e.g. Top Stories), read the brief article description, and then guess the article's title by matching the letters to their right slots. The highlighted letters match the highlighted title word. When the player correctly match enough letters, they pass on to the next article, gain more points, and eventually win trophies.

Guess the News features many popular news sections, such as Top Stories, Nation, Entertainment, Sport, Science, as well as other sections that include many other individual feeds. The application will automatically update its collection of news feeds with the latest available. Guess the News only requires an Internet connection from time to time to download the latest news, after which it can be played anytime, anywhere.


Guess the News offers two gaming modes: Timed and Classic mode. Under the Timed mode, enjoy the thrill of racing to guess the article. Guess enough letters within the stage time and pass on to the next article, gain more points, and eventually win trophies. In the Classic mode, players can take their time. Article headlines are listed at the end of each game and players can then select which article they want to read.

Version 1.5.1 now includes news sources from Australia, Brasil, Canada (English and French Canadian), Deutschland, Espana, France, Ireland, Italia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, as well as adds support for sound effects. Additionally, the game engine was modified for eased difficulty for the Medium and Easy levels as well as made the tile matching easier with one tap. Now one single tap suffice to match a tile while prior version required a double tap. The Medium level is roughly equal to the prior Easy level, with the Easy level made easier.

"One of the main challenges for any video game is to have content that is always new and up to date," said Luigi Lira, founder of Finger Arts. "Being an avid reader of news, we thought this metaphor would serve as the genesis for a new kind of game because it was novel and different from anything else. The challenge was how to fit this concept in a game that was fun, yet compelling, and the answer was to have them be guessed. Guess the news was born."


Guess the News uses RSS to get the latest news. Feed source may change from time to time. Current feed sources include ABC, CBS, CNN, ESPN, MTV, PopSugar, The New York Times, USA Today, BBC, and Yahoo plus tens of international feeds.
