Apple quietly discontinued its gold Apple Watch Edition models today. The company's luxurious smartwatch models started at $10,000 and ran all the way up to $17,000.
It's unclear why Apple discontinued the gold models; however, it's likely because the devices weren't selling as well as hoped.
Notably, the company did unveil a new Apple Watch Edition model alongside the Apple Watch Series 2. The single new model is white ceramic and it costs $1249 (38mm) and $1299 (42mm). It's now the only Apple Watch Edition model available.

Or maybe they notice that all the watches internals are digitally the same and could always be updated in software or from its the casing that has the gold touch which nothing more than people smarting up. Look at Hermes what a rip off its the same watch only has a marking that says Hermes are you willing to pay $500 more for a marking that you will have to take the watch of your hands just to see a name brand? Unlike the Rolex at least the rollex has Ila reputation from so far down the road and talk about quality out of the box. Today in this digital era it's very easy to replicate the faces and bands for the apple watch at lower prices not there's even a kit that will give your Apple watch the good edition look.
Gold was limited in the devices , they were overpriced to begin with. The overall cost to produce those watches , including overhead, labor , etc. is key. They seem to cost far more then they did to produce. Rolex watches do have gold . However certain models are highly collectible to watch collecters. Because of the limited quantities on some models, and the actual condition of the watch. The fact they are very complex to fix and they refuse to fix them. However they are still able to be fixed some times.
Gold timepieces are heirlooms, investments, and will be worth something in one year, five years, and twenty or even fifty years down the road. A gold gadget on the other hand is irrelevant in a year or two and only worth meltdown value thereafter. So that being wouldn't anyone rather purchase that gold Breitling, Rolex, or Patek Philippe over an Apple Watch Edition?
I agree about real time pieces. But if the gold Apple watches were limited and if Apple had some agreement with buyers to always fix them if they break in anyway or maybe even could integrate newer hardware internally over the years then who's to say their would be some sort of collectors market for them? And if that's not the case I'm sure if you had the money to shell out for one of the edition models then you could probably either have Apple or some tech person integrate the new Gen 2 guts inside it.
