Microsoft is out with a new ad for the Surface Pro 4 that takes aim at the MacBook's speed, resolution, and lack of a touchscreen.

We’ve gone country, but the Surface Pro 4 is at home anywhere with its powerful Intel processor, detachable keyboard, pen, and touch.

The company is likely hoping its message will resonate with customers since many are frustrated that Apple hasn't updated its MacBook Pro in 486 days and its MacBook Air in 557 days.

Let's see, you spend 1000 on both device. Year 1, Windows starts to have issues while Apple runs like new. Year 2, Windows crashes a lot while Apple still runs like new. Year 3, you replace the Window Wes device and spends another 1000 dollars while Apple still runs like new. Fast forward to year 6. You spent over 6000 dollars on replacements and parts to keep the Windows running and While the original Apple purchase runs like new. This is a tough decision.

I agree with you. I had my mid 2009 15" core 2 duo macbook pro for 6 years and still running. My investment in a laptop for graphic projects has paid off and it is still running until now with the latest macOS installed. Compared to my HP windows laptop with wacom pen interface included in the windows vista with the same specs, lasted only until 6 months because of the overheating, slowdown issues. The fact that I maxed-out the specs of my HP laptop for my graphic projects didn't paid off with the money I invested in my first laptop. After that then I gave macbook pro a try. At first I was a dummy using it after a long time I've used it I finally mastered it and made it my tool of my trade. I told myself if I will replace it as soon as Apple discontinues it by not supporting it in their macOS release, viola! It is still updated. Now I am using my macbook pro as my server at home for my Apple TV media via iTunes. It is still useable after it's 6year lifespan. 6 years of investing in a Mac has paid off and will upgrade a new one soon with no regrets.

Why are they comparing the Surface with a Macbook and not an iPad Pro? Will they be comparing it next to airpods and say they have no screen at all?

No kidding. I once liked Windows back in the XP and 7 days. Those were timeless, but not heavily securing it is when it shows just how frustrating it is to use Windows especially when it comes to doing the littlest things it glitches over, but now I stay the hell away from modern Windows as far as possible. It shows that Microsoft doesn't care about making it look good in order to stand out (which is the tip of the iceberg for many reasons I will never upgrade), but my parents reacting to how faulty the Windows 8/10 computers are they bought accurately sums it all up.

Exactly Bob, my iPad is meant for screen touching. Touching a laptop screen dirties the screen, and an apple mouse is perfect, since my hand is closer to the mouse, why must i keep lifting my hand. Silly PC people.

I like my iPad Pro but I admit it kinda seems like a "me too" product and one that doesn't really stack up all that well. I can't run real macOS apps on it. I am a little envious of my Surface friends who can run their touch apps alongside their regular Windows apps. Annoying as an Apple fan.

You can jailbreak the iPad Peo to make it look like OSX and actually run it on the iPad Pro if that satisfies you.

AnnaT: If you are a graphic artist (just assumed that you are) with a Macbook pro and an iPad pro already why frustrate on what you have when you can bring out the full potential of your devices. Here's an example. You can use your ipad pro like a Wacom cintiq by installing a $30 app called Astropad. It mirrors your macbook pro's screen controlling it by finger or an Apple Pencil which I think you already have, plus giving you a two screen advantage. The best thing about this is that it doesn't lag when plugged via usb or connected wirelessly in a strong connection. You also have a 2048 pen sensitivity compared to the on the iPad Pro compared to their stylus which is only 1024. You also have the best accurate control by the sensors installed in the Apple Pencil. You are using the power of your macbook pro without sacrificing the hardware because the Astropad uses the iPad's hardware. I bet your friends only have the basic version of the windows surface pro 4 and not the super expensive i7 really pro (?) version. The thing that I noticed with the surface pro 4 is that the UI is not optimized for finger use. Too small buttons on a too small screen. The buttons is not proportion with the 13" screen so you always grab your pen to press those teeeny tiny buttons. Not like with the iPad pro you can press the buttons accurately even if it is a 13" screen because of how they designed the iPad pro's touch screen. Surface Pro is still a gimmick and if I am a hardcore windows user I will buy a powerful dell laptop with the amount of the expensive surface pro (?) 4.

Apple could have loaded OS but they don't want to hurt their MacBook sales. Cause then i wouldn't buy a MacBook pro at the price its going, i would buy the big iPad pro, for ios and MAC OS

I'm starting to think they're constantly doing this just so they can attempt to force us over or so anyone at any generation will easily see this. The resolution is not a big deal to me, the processing power can be upgraded thanks to OWC, and who cares about the pen that is still outperformed by Apple Pencil?
