Everplay 1.0 Released

Snarb.tk has announced the immediate availability of Everplay 1.0, the first official release of the successor to their popular iTunes controller Cover Stream. A light-weight, stand-alone media player, Everplay merges your iTunes music library with Last FM web and radio services. It lets you browse, search and play your iTunes music library and playlists, listen to personalized online radio and take full part of the social music community.

Everplay comes with a beautiful, carefully designed, light-colored user interface, as opposed to the dark HUD of Cover Stream. The main difference between the two, however, is that Everplay is a stand-alone media player, meaning it does not require iTunes to be running to play your music or videos. Registered users of Cover Stream are entitled to a 50% discount.

Does this mean that iTunes won't be able to keep track of your recent plays? No. Play count and other metadata is automatically updated as soon as iTunes is launched, whether Everplay is running or not. This is all taken care of by Everplay's background daemon.


In addition to the standard media player features, Everplay lets you create and manage playlists on-the-fly using Everplay's song queuing feature, known as Jukebox mode. In Jukebox mode, selected songs or albums are queued instead of played immediately. Once the current song ends, the next song in queue starts playing. You can also choose to play a song or album right after the current song. The song queue is displayed in Everplay's Upcoming menu, where you can also choose to skip songs, or rearrange their play order simply by dragging them to a new position in the menu.

The same features are also available in standard play mode, meaning you can choose to queue an individual song or album, skip and rearrange upcoming songs at any time.

Other notable features not provided by iTunes include visual player notifications on your desktop, global, fully customizable hotkeys to control playback from within any application, a mini controller on the desktop displaying current song info and artwork, Growl support, speech announcements, Apple Remote support, and a fullscreen mode with album browsing capabilities. Simply hold down your remote's Play button to bring up the songs menu.

Last but not least, Everplay is fully integrated with Last FM web and radio services. It lets you scrobble songs and post Now Playing updates to Last FM, love and ban songs, add music to your Last FM playlists, post a comment in a user's or artist's shoutbox, share music with your friends by sending them an email or PM, look up an artist's biography and learn about upcoming concerts in your neighborhood - events that can be added to iCal with a single click.


And then there's radio. You can listen to personalized radio based on your musical preferences, tags, Last FM recommendations or similarity with a certain artist. You can even listen to your friends and other users online music library, or explore your musical match neighbourhood.

With Everplay's Similar Artists mode, you can even use your iTunes music library as the starting point for discovering new great music based on similarity with your favorite artists. Simply double click an album in the cover flow view to start streaming similar artists from Last FM - the world's largest online music catalogue.
