Apple has released a firmware update for the AirPods and AirPods Pro.

The new firmware version is 2C54 for both models. Previously, the second generation AirPods were using 2A364 and the AirPods Pro were on 2B588.

The new firmware version likely brings bug fixes and improvements. No new features have been spotted yet.

While you can't trigger a firmware update, you can check to see if your device has been updated via the Settings > General > About > AirPods menu.

The latest AirPods Pro firmware seems to be more buggy than the previous version. I was wearing the AirPods Pro to both of my ears but suddenly my left AirPods Pro have a sound of dropping objects and then I lost the audio from the left side. When I checked the AirPods Pro setting in General -> BlueTooth, I found that the Noise Cancellation mode was automatically turned off. When I tried to select the Noise Cancellation to turn it on, AirPods Pro informed me to put on both ear pieces. But I have ALREADY put on both pieces of AirPods Pro to my ears and the software doesn’t seem to be able to detect it. The problem cannot be fixed by removing both pieces of AirPods Pro from my ears and then I put on both pieces of AirPods Pro back to my ears. I tried to forget the AirPods Pro device and reconnect it to my iPhone, the problem vanished just for a short while and then the lost audio issue happen again on my left ear piece.

My firmware version says 6.8.8. I’m not seeing anything resembling the syntax shown in the article?

Just put them to charge and it will upgrade the firmware for you......eventually. Unfortunately, there is no way to manually trigger the firmware upgrade.
