AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson doesn't believe the iPad will result in many new subscriptions for the company as customers will instead use Wi-Fi, according to comments made on Tuesday.
"My expectation is that there's not going to be a lot of people out there looking for another subscription," he said during a webcast of an investor conference, adding that the iPad would be a mainly "Wi-Fi driven product."
Reuters reports that when asked about AT&T exclusive rights to sell the iPhone, Stephenson said the iPhone would be "an important part" of their line up "for quite some period of time".
In regards to poor network conditions in San Francisco and New York City Stephenson said, "We've got a ways to go, but we think this quarter will really move the needle considerably in both of these markets."
Stephenson also reiterated his belief that the future will bring variable pricing on data usage.
"For the industry, we'll progressively move towards more of what I call variable pricing so the heavy (use) consumers will pay more than the lower consumers," Stephenson said.
