Apple has developed an internal ChatGPT-like app to test its revamped Siri, according to a new report from Bloomberg. The app, code-named "Veritas," is being used by the company's AI division to quickly evaluate new features for the long-promised Siri overhaul.
The software is reportedly an internal tool, and Apple has no current plans to release it to the public. It lets employees try out the rebuilt assistant's ability to search through personal data, like songs and emails, and perform in-app actions such as editing a photo. Veritas works much like other popular chatbots, with support for multiple conversations, saved history, and follow-up queries.
The app is being used to test the revamped underlying system, codenamed "Linwood," which relies on a combination of Apple's own foundation models and a third-party model. The overhaul is a high-stakes project for the company, which has faced repeated setbacks in its AI efforts. Those advanced Siri features were pushed back to as early as March 2026 after engineering problems.
The delay prompted a major leadership shake-up, and the executive who previously oversaw Siri, Robby Walker, is now set to leave Apple in October. After his responsibilities were shifted, Walker launched a new group called Answers, Knowledge and Information (AKI), a secret team now central to developing AI-based search features for the updated assistant.
Apple has also been exploring partnerships to bolster its AI push. The company has reportedly ramped up discussions with Google about using its Gemini platform and previously held talks with OpenAI and Anthropic. In a recent all-hands meeting, CEO Tim Cook told employees the AI revolution was "ours to grab."
Still, executives have expressed reluctance to enter the public chatbot market. In a June interview, software chief Craig Federighi said such a tool "remains not our primary goal."
