Apple has launched a limited-edition Hikawa Phone Grip & Stand, a MagSafe accessory designed in collaboration with Los Angeles artist Bailey Hikawa to mark the 40th anniversary of accessibility at the company. Developed with direct input from individuals with disabilities affecting muscle strength, dexterity, and hand control, the grip is intended to make holding the iPhone more stable while requiring less effort to keep it steady.
The grip attaches magnetically to any MagSafe-compatible iPhone and can be removed quickly without adhesive. Once attached, it doubles as a stand that supports two viewing angles in both portrait and landscape orientations. Hikawa says the design was shaped by extensive interviews with users who needed alternative ways of holding larger devices: "The grip was designed… to support varied ways of holding iPhone while reducing the effort needed to keep it steady."
The accessory continues a recent run of artist-led collaborations following Apple's 3D-knitted 'iPhone Pocket' created with Issey Miyake. Like that piece, the Hikawa grip emphasizes design as much as function; it is constructed from premium silicone with a soft-touch feel and is positioned by Hikawa as an art object when not in use.
The Hikawa Phone Grip & Stand measures 3.1 by 2.3 inches and is available in two finishes: a high-visibility Chartreuse and a recycled Crater construction. It is priced at $69.95 and sold exclusively through Apple, though the first production run is currently listed as sold out.
