I have recently jailbroken my iPhone 4 and I am considering whether I should upgrade to iOS 6 or if doing so will cause issues with my jailbreak.

Upgrading your jailbroken iPhone 4 to iOS 6 will cause you to lose your current jailbreak. While iOS 6 can be jailbroken on the iPhone 4 using hardware-based exploits, the jailbreak is tethered. A tethered jailbreak requires you to connect the iPhone to a computer every time it reboots to boot into a jailbroken state. If you do not want to deal with the inconvenience of needing a PC to restart your phone, you should stay on your current firmware. Always ensure you have saved your SHSH blobs before performing any updates so that you have the option to downgrade if necessary.

If you have a factory unlocked iPhone you can upgrade, but you cannot easily downgrade and the jailbreak for iOS 6 is currently tethered. This means every time you shut down or restart the iPhone, you must connect it to a computer to use Cydia and jailbroken apps. It is recommended that you do not upgrade yet.
