I have an iPhone 4S running iOS 5.1.1 and have SHSH blobs saved via TinyUmbrella and Cydia. Can I restore back to 5.1.1 if necessary, or will I be forced to update to the latest iOS version? Is it possible to restore using redsn0w without these blobs?

To restore an iPhone 4S to iOS 5.1.1, you absolutely must have your SHSH blobs saved for that specific firmware version. Because Apple is no longer signing iOS 5.1.1, a standard restore through iTunes will automatically update the device to the latest supported version, which is iOS 9.3.6. If you have your blobs, you can use specialized tools like redsn0w or Odysseus, but please note that A5 devices require a more complex process than older models, often involving pwned DFU mode. You cannot restore to 5.1.1 without your unique SHSH blobs.
