I have an iPod touch 4th generation and I am looking for information on whether Apple will release the iOS 7 firmware update for this device or if it is unsupported.

Apple officially released iOS 7 on September 18, 2013, but the iPod touch 4th generation is not compatible with this operating system update. Due to hardware limitations, specifically regarding the processor and RAM, the final software version supported by the iPod touch 4th generation is iOS 6.1.6. Users who wish to run iOS 7 or later must use an iPod touch 5th generation or a newer model.
