I am looking to downgrade my iPhone 3GS (new bootrom) from iOS 6.1.2 to iOS 5.1.1. Could someone provide a guide or explanation on how to perform this downgrade safely?

To downgrade your iPhone 3GS from iOS 6.1.2 to 5.1.1, you must have your SHSH blobs saved for the specific firmware version you want to install. If you have these blobs, you can use RedSn0w to facilitate the restore. First, download the iOS 5.1.1 IPSW file for the iPhone 3GS. Open RedSn0w, navigate to Extras, then Even More, and click on Restore. Select the IPSW file and then provide your saved SHSH blobs when prompted. For a step-by-step walkthrough, you can follow this guide: www.iclarified.com/25227/how-to-downgrade-your-iphone-3gs-from-ios-6x-to-ios-5x-windows. Note that if you do not have saved blobs, downgrading to an unsigned firmware version is generally not possible. Always ensure your data is backed up before attempting any firmware changes.
