To remove your data from a Mac mini before giving it away, the best method is to perform a factory reset. If your Mac mini has Apple Silicon or the T2 security chip and is running macOS Monterey or later, go to System Settings, select General, then Transfer or Reset, and click Erase All Content and Settings. This will securely wipe your data and sign you out of all services. For older Mac mini models, you should first sign out of iCloud, iMessage, and Find My Mac. Then, restart the computer while holding Command and R to enter Recovery Mode. Use Disk Utility to erase your hard drive and then select Reinstall macOS to prepare the device for its new owner.
