My daughter has forgotten the four-digit security passcode for her iPhone 4. The device is currently linked to my Apple ID account. How can I reset the phone to regain access?

To unlock an iPhone 4 when the passcode is forgotten, you must restore the device using a computer. This process will erase all content and settings on the phone. First, ensure you have a computer with iTunes or Finder installed. Turn off your iPhone 4 completely. While holding down the Home button, connect the iPhone to your computer using the USB cable. Continue holding the Home button until the recovery mode screen appears on the device. On your computer, a message will appear asking if you want to Restore or Update; select Restore. After the software is reinstalled, the passcode will be removed. Because the phone is linked to your Apple account, you will need to enter your Apple ID and password to complete the setup if Find My iPhone was enabled.

You can unlock an iPhone 4 with a forgotten passcode by performing a factory restore in recovery mode. Connect the iPhone to a computer while holding the Home button until the recovery screen appears. Once the device is in recovery mode, select the Restore option in iTunes or Finder. This will erase the device and remove the passcode. Please be aware that all data will be lost if you do not have a backup. You will also need the Apple ID and password associated with the device to reactivate it after the restore.
