How do I recover deleted contacts on my iPhone?

I used an app called SpringClean to erase contacts on one device before selling it, but the deletion synced across all my devices via iCloud. I tried restoring an iTunes backup, but the contacts only appeared briefly before disappearing again. How can I permanently restore my deleted contacts?

If your contacts disappeared because they were deleted from another device synced with iCloud, you can often restore them using the iCloud website. Sign in to iCloud.com on a computer, click on Account Settings, and scroll down to the Advanced section at the bottom. Select Restore Contacts and choose a backup date from before the deletion occurred. This will push the archived version of your contacts back to all your devices. If you are using a local backup on a computer, make sure to disable iCloud Contacts on your phone before restoring to prevent the sync from immediately deleting them again. Once restored, you can re-enable iCloud and choose to merge your contacts.
