I am trying to upgrade an iPhone 4 from iOS 4.3.3 to a custom iOS 5.1.1 firmware. During the restore process in iTunes, I keep encountering Error 3194 and Error 11. I have already attempted to edit the hosts file and use TinyUmbrella, but the errors persist. Are there any other solutions to resolve these errors and successfully restore the device?

iTunes Error 3194 occurs because Apple has stopped signing iOS 5.1.1. To restore to this version on an iPhone 4, you must have your SHSH blobs previously saved for that specific firmware. Error 11 often indicates that the device is not in the correct mode for a custom restore or there is a communication issue with the hardware. 1. Make sure you have the SHSH blobs for iOS 5.1.1. 2. Use a tool like iFaith or Redsn0w to stitch your blobs into a custom signed IPSW. 3. Put your iPhone into Pwned DFU mode using Redsn0w or iREB before starting the restore in iTunes. 4. If you do not have saved blobs, you will not be able to restore to iOS 5.1.1 and must restore to the latest supported version for the iPhone 4, which is iOS 7.1.2. 5. Try a different USB cable or port to rule out hardware connectivity issues causing Error 11.

Apple is no longer signing iOS 5.1.1, which is why you are encountering Error 3194. To update or restore to that specific firmware, you must have saved SHSH blobs for your device. You can use tools like Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze to perform the restore with your blobs. If you do not have those blobs saved, your only option is to update to the latest firmware version supported by your device.
