My iPhone 5 rattles when tapping near the camera or when setting the phone down on a surface. Many forums have different opinions on this. Can someone clarify if this is normal?

The rattling sound you hear in the iPhone 5 is typically considered normal behavior. There are two common causes for this sound. Most often, it is the autofocus lens assembly in the rear camera, which is designed to move to adjust focus and can rattle slightly when the phone is tapped or set down. Additionally, some iPhone 5 units have a slightly loose power (sleep/wake) button that can make a similar sound. Neither of these issues usually indicates a hardware defect or impacts functionality, but if the noise is excessively loud or the camera fails to focus, you may want to contact Apple support for an inspection.

This seems to be common on the iPhone 5. It is usually related to the power button or the camera lens. I have checked two other iPhone 5 units and both have the same rattle.
