I am trying to downgrade an iPhone 4 running iOS 6 with baseband 4.12.02. Every time I attempt the downgrade using iTunes or Redsn0w, the process fails. Redsn0w fails to find the device or the iBSS does not reach the phone. iTunes gets stuck on preparing or verifying the restore and returns an error. How can I resolve these issues and complete the downgrade?

To successfully downgrade an iPhone 4 from iOS 6, you must have saved SHSH blobs for the firmware version you wish to install. A common cause of failure is using a modern version of iTunes. It is recommended to use iTunes 11.0.5 or an earlier version on a Windows PC with USB 2.0 ports. Before attempting the restore in iTunes, use a tool like iREB or Redsn0w to put the iPhone into Pwned DFU mode. This bypasses the signature check that often causes the process to hang during the preparation or verification stages. Additionally, check your computer hosts file for any entries related to gs.apple.com and remove them to ensure a clean connection to the verification servers.
