I have an iPhone 3GS running iOS 6.0.1 with baseband 05.16.07. Is there a way to jailbreak and unlock this device using DIY methods? I am looking to downgrade the baseband to make it compatible with an unlock without paying for a service.

To jailbreak and unlock an iPhone 3GS on iOS 6.0.1 with baseband 05.16.07, you need to use Redsn0w. This baseband version cannot be unlocked directly, so you must install the iPad baseband and then downgrade it to version 05.13.04.

1. Download Redsn0w 0.9.15b3 and the iOS 6.0 IPSW for the iPhone 3GS.
2. Open Redsn0w, click Extras, Select IPSW, and choose the iOS 6.0 firmware.
3. Return to the main menu, click Jailbreak, and follow the instructions to enter DFU mode.
4. Choose the options to Install Cydia and Install iPad Baseband.
5. After the device reboots, go back to Redsn0w, select the iOS 6.0 IPSW again in Extras, and click Jailbreak.
6. Uncheck Install iPad Baseband and select Downgrade from iPad Baseband.
7. Once the process is complete, open Cydia on your iPhone and install Ultrasn0w to unlock the device for other carriers.
