To jailbreak your iPhone 3GS on iOS 5.1.1 and downgrade from the iPad baseband, you should first restore your device to iOS 5.1.1 using iTunes. Once the restore is complete, use the Redsn0w tool to jailbreak the device. During the selection process in Redsn0w, ensure you check the box for Downgrade from iPad baseband. This allows the software to jailbreak the phone and flash a compatible baseband simultaneously, restoring GPS functionality and allowing for a standard unlock. Make sure your iPhone 3GS was manufactured before the middle of 2011 to ensure compatibility with the iPad baseband downgrade.
