iPhone 4S Sim Not Valid Error After Unlocking

I had my iPhone 4S unlocked at a store and cut my Chatr SIM card to fit, but iTunes says the SIM is not compatible. I also have a Gevey SIM for iOS 6. Can I use a friend's SIM or a Rogers micro-SIM to activate the iPhone first, then switch back to my Chatr SIM? What is the best way to resolve the Sim Not Valid error?

The SIM Not Valid error on an iPhone 4S usually means the device is still carrier-locked or the SIM card is not being recognized correctly. If you paid for a permanent IMEI unlock, you must connect the iPhone to iTunes and perform a restore to apply the unlock. You should eventually see a message in iTunes stating that your iPhone is unlocked. If you are using a Gevey SIM interposer, it must be specifically compatible with your iOS version and baseband. While using a Rogers SIM might help with activation because Chatr uses the Rogers network, it will not permanently solve the issue if the phone remains locked to a different original carrier. It is best to verify the unlock status with the service you used before attempting to activate with a manually cut SIM card.
