When I type into the search bar in the Notes app on my Mac, it returns no results. I know the keywords exist in my documents. The search function works perfectly fine on my iPhone and iPad. How do I fix the search issue on my computer running macOS Tahoe 26?

Fixing Apple Notes search issues on macOS requires rebuilding the Spotlight search index or clearing the Notes application container. The Notes app relies on macOS Spotlight to return search results.
Method 1: Rebuild Spotlight Index
1. Open System Settings from the Apple menu.
2. Click Spotlight in the left sidebar.
3. Scroll to the bottom and click Search Privacy.
4. Drag your primary Mac hard drive into the privacy list.
5. Click Done to save.
6. Click Search Privacy again, select your hard drive from the list, and click the minus button to remove it.
7. Click Done. macOS will rebuild the index in the background. Check your Notes search after a few hours.
Method 2: Clear Notes Container
Ensure your notes are fully synced to iCloud before proceeding.
1. Quit the Notes app.
2. Open Finder, click Go in the top menu bar, hold the Option key, and click Library.
3. Open the Group Containers folder.
4. Find the folder named group.com.apple.notes and move it to the Trash.
5. Restart your Mac.
6. Open Notes. Your data will resync from iCloud and the search index will rebuild.
