I jailbroke an iPhone 3GS using redsn0w on iOS 6.0.1 with modem firmware 05.16.07. While Cydia is installed, I cannot unlock the device for use with other carriers. I have tried ultrasn0w without success and do not have saved activation tickets for SAM. How can I unlock this device?

The reason ultrasn0w is not working is because it does not support modem firmware 05.16.07. To unlock this device, you have two main options. The most reliable method is to contact your original carrier and request a factory unlock. Since the iPhone 3GS is an older model, many carriers will provide this service for free. If a factory unlock is not available, you can use redsn0w to install the 06.15.00 iPad baseband and then use the same tool to downgrade it to version 05.13.04. Unlike the iPad baseband, version 05.13.04 is fully compatible with ultrasn0w and allows the GPS to function correctly.
