How to Fix an iPhone 3GS Stuck in a Boot Loop After Jailbreaking

I attempted to jailbreak an unlocked iPhone 3GS using the latest version of redsn0w, but I mistakenly assumed I had an old bootrom. This caused the phone to boot with a yellow screen. I attempted a hardware reset by temporarily disconnecting the internal components, and although I can now see the Apple logo after an iTunes restore, the phone is stuck in a boot loop. It displays the Apple logo for several minutes, followed by a spinning pinwheel, and then a quick white screen flash before rebooting. I am looking for a way to fix this boot loop and restore the device to working order.

A boot loop on an iPhone 3GS is almost always a software issue rather than a permanent hardware failure. You can typically resolve this by performing a DFU restore through iTunes. To do this, connect your iPhone to your computer and open iTunes. Press and hold the Power and Home buttons together for 10 seconds. Release the Power button but continue to hold the Home button for an additional 15 seconds. If the screen remains black and iTunes detects a device in recovery mode, you have successfully entered DFU mode. Select the Restore option in iTunes to install a fresh version of iOS 6.1.6. This will erase the device, but it should fix the boot loop and allow the phone to function again.
