When using evasi0n to jailbreak iOS 6.1 on an iPhone 4, is it better to set up the device as new or restore from a backup before applying the jailbreak? Also, if I am currently on a tethered jailbreak using Redsn0w, is it best to just install the evasi0n untether package from Cydia and reboot the phone?

For the most stable jailbreak experience, it is generally recommended to set up your device as new before running the evasi0n jailbreak tool. This minimizes potential conflicts with existing settings or corrupted data. Once the jailbreak is complete and verified, you can then restore your data from your backup. If you are already on a tethered iOS 6.x jailbreak via Redsn0w, you do not necessarily need to restore the entire device. You can search for the evasi0n 6.x Untether package in Cydia and install it to convert your tethered jailbreak into an untethered one. Always ensure you have a fresh backup in iTunes or iCloud before proceeding with any jailbreak operations.
