I have a jailbroken iPhone 4s and mistakenly attempted to update the software. Now an image of iTunes with a cable has appeared and the phone is locked. How can I get it back to normal?

The icon you are seeing indicates your iPhone is in Recovery Mode, not DFU mode. This happens when an update is attempted on a jailbroken device. To fix it, connect the iPhone to your computer and open iTunes or Finder. Click the Restore button to reinstall the operating system. Note that this will erase your data and remove the jailbreak, so you will need to restore from a backup and re-jailbreak afterward.
