I have an iPhone 3GS with baseband 05.16.08 and the new bootrom. The device is unable to recognize the SIM card and stays on Searching. How can I downgrade the baseband to fix this issue?

To fix the Searching issue on an iPhone 3GS with baseband 05.16.08, you typically need to use RedSn0w to flash the 06.15.00 iPad baseband and then downgrade it to 05.13.04. This allows the device to be unlocked using Ultrasn0w. First, download the latest version of RedSn0w and the official iOS 6.0 firmware for the iPhone 3GS. Open RedSn0w, go to Extras, then Select IPSW and point it to the iOS 6.0 firmware. Go back to the main screen, click Jailbreak, and select the Install iPad baseband option. Once that is complete, run the jailbreak process again in RedSn0w, but this time select only the Downgrade from iPad baseband option. This should bring your baseband to 05.13.04, which is compatible with the Ultrasn0w unlock and should resolve the Searching status. Please ensure you have a backup and understand that these legacy tools are used at your own risk.
