I have an iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.1 with the 06.15.00 iPad baseband, currently unlocked via UltraSn0w. Is it possible to upgrade this device to iOS 6 and maintain the unlock? I have heard that updating might cause the phone to lose network connectivity.

To upgrade an iPhone 3GS with the 06.15.00 iPad baseband to iOS 6 while maintaining your unlock, you should first downgrade the baseband to 05.13.04 using Redsn0w. The iPad baseband often causes GPS issues and can lead to errors during the restoration process. Once the baseband is downgraded, you can update to iOS 6.1.6, which is the final supported version for the 3GS and is still being signed by Apple. After the update, you will need to jailbreak your device using Redsn0w or p0sixspwn and then install UltraSn0w from Cydia. If you are using iOS 6.1.6, you may also need to install the UltraSn0w Fixer package to ensure the unlock works correctly. This process will preserve your ability to use the device on other carriers while improving system stability.

You should first downgrade your baseband from 06.15.00 to 05.13.04 using Redsn0w to ensure GPS functionality and a smoother update process. After the downgrade, you can proceed with the iOS 6 update and use Redsn0w to jailbreak and UltraSn0w to unlock.
