I am trying to upgrade my iPhone 3GS from iOS 5.1.1 to 6.1.2 following the tutorial at http://www.iclarified.com/25144/how-to-upgrade-your-iphone-4-3gs-without-updating-the-baseband-windows but Redsn0w gives an error saying it is unable to parse the IPSW. How can I resolve this error?

The Unable to parse IPSW error in Redsn0w typically occurs when the application does not recognize the specific firmware file provided. This is a common issue when using older versions of the tool or when attempting to process firmware that was released after the tool was last updated. To fix this, first ensure you are using the latest version of Redsn0w, which is 0.9.15b3. If you are trying to jailbreak or restore to iOS 6.1.x and receive this error, go to the Extras menu within Redsn0w, click Select IPSW, and then manually select the iOS 6.0 IPSW file for your device instead of the version you are currently trying to install. Redsn0w often requires the iOS 6.0 firmware to correctly identify the device architecture for older hardware like the iPhone 3GS. Once Redsn0w successfully identifies the firmware, you can proceed with the rest of the tutorial.
