How to Jailbreak Your iPad 2 Using Absinthe (Windows) [5.0.1]

These are instructions on how to perform an untethered jailbreak of your iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1 using Absinthe for Windows.

Warning***: Before you continue make sure to do a backup of your device in iTunes as you may lose your Camera Roll during this process.

Step One
Download the latest version of Absinthe from here.

Step Two
Double click to extract the downloaded archive and launch the Absinthe application.

How to Jailbreak Your iPad 2 Using Absinthe (Windows) [5.0.1]

Step Three
As prompted, connect your iPad 2 to the computer via USB. Make sure to remove any passcodes or VPN settings you've previously set.

Step Four
Click the Jailbreak button to begin

Step Five
The application will take you through several steps of the jailbreak: Sending initial data, waiting for reboot, waiting for device to finish booting, Preparing jailbreak data, and Sending payload data.

Step Six
You will be informed that the jailbreak is 'Almost done'.

Step Seven
On you device, locate the Absinthe icon and press it to complete your jailbreak. It could be on any homescreen.

If the server is down and you get an Error establishing a database connection message then tap the Settings icon on your springboard and turn on VPN.

You will get a configuration error; however, after about a minute your device will reboot.

Once your device restarts you will be jailbroken with Cydia on the Springboard!

I jailbroken my iPad 2 iOS 5 by using absinthe But I remove my cydia icon , have any tutorial to get it back? Anyone help me please !

Hi, i've got an iPad2 running 4.3.3 and would like to upgrade to 5.0.1 and jailbreak. unfortunately, apple stopped signing ios 5.0.1, so is there another way to upgrade and jailbreak without updating through itunes holding shift button and browsing for the ipsw?

I installed Absinthe a few days ago and it was working fine other then a couple of times my respring would not work. last night it stopped working again and when i shut down and restarted the ipad all the cydia ungrades that i had installed stopped working. i tried to rerun absinthe and it says devise is already jailbroken but cydia will not open. any advise???

When I try to run the application absinthe.exe it errors out stating that this must Run as an Administrator - and the same error appear if I try to Run it as an Administrator from the properties. please advise - I am running Window 7 Ent. Editition

Warning this jailbreak eventually makes your green call icon vanish look Like it hasn't been test properly I did mine a week ago

iPad2 on 5.0.1 works great with JB and Cydia thanks to Absinthe .2 windows! What I did: 1. Install itunes 10.5.2 and backup my ipad2 4.3.3 JB with Jailbreakme.com, I also copied my photos folder from the ipad2 using windows into a folder on my PC. 2. Download the 5.0.1 iPad2 firmware using win7 on PC (yes, I'm admin!) 3. hold shift and click restore button in itunes 4. find the 5.0.1 file I downloded and click on it. Then click restore. 5. Got hrough all the steps on the ipad2 to set it up 'new', including app store pw, wifi pw, etc. 6. Unplug and turn off ipad2, slide to power off. 7. Disable windows firewall or comodo firewall or whatever. should close antivirus, too. 8. click on the absinthe icon in the windows folder after you download and unzip it. Do not move it away from the data folder it creates. 9. Now, just like the pictures above, plug in the ioad2. 10. From here on it took about 3 minutes. I did not have to mess with the vpn trick. Just tapped the absinthe icon on the ipad after it restarted a couple times. It magically became Cydia in about 10 seconds. 11. Unplug ipad2 and open Cydia , go to packages and tap refresh on the ipad2. All done and good! Install SbSettings and other great software! Thanks to the Dream Team! I have 3G 64GB iPad2 - tried on two PC ( Win7 and XP) - jailbreak gets stuck at "Beginning jailbreak, this may take a while..." I am not sure how long is "while" - waited 20 minutes. Should I wait longer?

Found a fix. I upgraded to 5.0.1 and left ipad overnight connected to iTunes - iPad was restored from backup. I restored iPad to factory defaults and then restarted the process before restoring from a backup. After that everything worked just fine.

My case, no Absinthe but Cydia icon is found on the springboard. It crashed when I try to launch it. Just reboot the device and try going into Cydia again. It worked for me. :) Happy Jailbreaking!

Every thing went smooth, except when I try to do the vpn trick nothing happens! and also I can't use wifi internet connection after I run Absinthe any help please..

The jailbreak quit, stating unexpected error and has to close. When I try to run the jailbreak again it states jailbreak must have failed trying to fix and recover. Now it's also says unplug and replug your device and try again. Each time I do this it says the same thing over again. And I repeat it. Anyone else.

try extracting everything from the .rar file, I just extracted the abynthe.exe the first time, that did the trick for me!

Hey guys I was having the same issue ,what I did was restore my iPad first and use a different USB wired .i also downloaded Absinthe again and extracted onto my desktop,don't know which one of this steps was what finally solve this issue,but I'm jailbroken now:) I honestly think ithe issue was that my iPad was updated to 5.0.1 over wifi,so I restore it to 5.0.1 over iTunes instead,it said I had to update to 5.0.1 even do I was already on 5.0.1

ciao...try this download absinthe in green pioson.com,not in iclarified,it works very well and easy when i jailbreak my ipad 2....

I wonder why in the video tutorial u dont have to open absinthe from the ipad2 and you only required to turn the vpn on, while on the text version u have to open absinthe from the ipad on turn the vpn only if get an error message. which step should i follow ? the text version or the video version ?
