iPhone 17 Air to Feature A19 Pro Chip With One Less GPU Core [Rumor]

A new leak offers more detail on how Apple will differentiate its upcoming iPhone 17 Air from the Pro models, suggesting the ultra-thin device will share a powerful chip but make compromises on the GPU, display, and battery.

In a recent post on Weibo, leaker Fixed Focus Digital claims the iPhone 17 Air, also referred to as the iPhone 17 Slim, will feature "almost Pro configuration." The report specifically alleges the device will use the same A19 Pro processor as the high-end models, but with one GPU core disabled. This detail matches a previous forecast which suggested the Air model would use a 5-core GPU versus the 6-core version in the Pro and Pro Max.

The leaker adds that the screen and battery will not be on par with the Pro models. The ultra-thin design of the iPhone 17 Air has been the subject of numerous leaks, with hands-on videos showcasing its "scary thin" profile. That slim build has raised concerns about power, leading to reports that Apple is developing a dedicated battery case and exploring new silicon-anode battery technology to manage runtime.


Fixed Focus Digital also predicted the iPhone 17 Air will be a "hot-selling model" this year, a view the leaker is "quite optimistic" about.
