Hands-On With 'iPhone 17 Air' Dummy Reveals 'Scary Thin' Design [Video]

Check out this hands-on video with dummy units that allegedly reveal the design of Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 lineup. Shared by channel Unbox Therapy, the dummies give us a closer look at just how thin the 'iPhone Air' may be.

In the video, host Lewis Hilsenteger first examines an iPhone 17 Pro Max dummy. He points out it matches the dimensions of another mockup he'd previously received from a different source. This unit specifically lists its size as 163.04mm tall, 77.59mm wide, and 8.75mm thick, adding weight to the rumored specs for the top-tier model.

Moving on, the video reveals mockups for the much-discussed iPhone 17 Air. Its standout feature is immediately apparent: an incredibly thin design. Hilsenteger expresses genuine surprise when picking it up, calling the sensation "futuristic."


According to markings on the Air dummy itself, the device measures just 5.65mm thick at its thinnest point. That's a stark difference compared to the 8.75mm thickness indicated on the Pro Max dummy, highlighting just how much slimmer the Air is potentially designed to be.

A dummy for the standard iPhone 17 was also present, showing listed dimensions of 149.62mm height, 71.46mm width, and 7.96mm thickness. Compared visually, the iPhone 17 Air appears taller than the standard 17 but shorter than the Pro Max, with a width closer to the larger Pro Max model.

Hilsenteger repeatedly emphasizes that the thinness of the Air dummy is far more impactful when held physically compared to just seeing images, noting it "really changes the experience of holding the phone substantially." The video also briefly shows a protective case designed for the Air dummy unit.
