Istruzioni su come installare Boxee e XBMC sulla vostra Apple TV.
Primo passo Scaricate atvusb-creator sulla vostra scrivania da qui. Selezionate l'ultima versione per il vostro sistema operativo.
Scaricate l'ultimo firmware per Apple TV rilasciato da qui e salvatelo sulla scrivania.
NOTA*: Questo tutorial è creato sul firmware 2.3.1.
Secondo passo Fate doppio click sul file appena scaricato sulla scrivania (atvusb-creator-1.0.b10.zip) per estrarlo. Farte quindi doppio click sulla cartella estratta (atvusb-creator-1.0.b10) per aprirla.
Terzo passo Inserite una chiavetta USB vuota nel vostro computer e poi fate doppio click su atvusb-creator per aprirlo.
Quarto passo Se appare una finestra all'apertura del programma premete su accetta.
Quinto passo ATV USB Creator ora si aprirà.
Selezionate ATV-Patchstick dal menu a tendina.
Selezionate XBMC/Boxee for Mac dal menu a tendina riguardante le opzioni di installazione ed assicuratevi che appaia un segno di spunta sulla sinistra della scelta fatta
Cliccate sul bottone Choose a DMG.
Nella finestra che apparirà selezionate l'Apple TV firmaware precedentemente scaricato sula vostra scrivania e cliccate sul bottone Open.
Assicuratevi che USB Target Device abbia il giusto percorso. Se avete un solo hard disk interno e la chiavetta USB è l'unico dispositivo connesso il percorso che dovreste vedere è /dev/disk2.
Infine premete sul bottone Create Using --> per creare la vostra patchstick.
Sesto passo Una volta creata con successo la patchstick, rimovete la chiavetta USB dal vostro computer. Spegnete la vostra AppleTV togliendo il cavo di alimentazione ed inserite la patchstick nella porta USB sul retro dell'AppleTV. Rialimentatela con il cavo per iniziare il processo.
Settimo passo Noterete che sulla vostra TV apparirà l'icona ATV USB Creator al posto del solito logo Apple.
Lo schemo diverrà poi nero ed appariranno alcuni comandi del Terminale che dureranno alcuni minuti. Quando il processo sarò completato vi verrà comunicato di spegnere l'AppleTV per riavviarla (anche in questo caso togliete il cavo di alimentazione). Ricordatevi di togliere la chiavetta USB dal retro dell'AppleTV prima di rialimentarla.
Ottavo passo Al riavvio vedrete che la vostra AppleTV ha un nuvo menu chiamato XBMC/Boxee.
Selezionatelo e quindi cliccate su Update che trovate nel sottomenu.
Dall'updater selezionate l'ultima versione disponibile di Boxxe.
Inizierà quindi il download dell'applicazione ed a video vedrete lo stato del download.
Quando avrà finito potrete preme sul bottone Menu del vostro telecomando per tornare alla schermata aggiornamenti
A questo punto, sempre nella sezione update, selezionate l'ultima versione del Launcher.
Non appena il download sarà completato inizierà l'installazione ed AppleTV si riavvierà in automatico.
Nono passo Quando l'AppleTV si sarà riavviata vedrete un nuovo menu chiamato Launcher. Selezionate Boxee dal sottomenu Launcher per avviare l'applicazione.

On ATV 1st gen, I installed everything and it worked great. However, while upgrading NitoTV, the system did not come back to the menu. It shows a blank screen, and I am stuck there - I lost all menus -. I rebooted a few times, re-patched, but to no avail. The menus are lost. Screensaver works though; and iTunes still connects as before. But now I need the PC to connect. I even SSH'ed and all files seem to be there - for what I can judge, I am a rookie -. Any idea? Shall I downgrade the software and try again - but will I lose all music then -.? Thanks
I've perfectly installed a 3.02 but I have a problem.
I can mount only HFS external volemes
in the previous 2.4 installation I was able to use NTFS volumes
any idea?

UPDATE: This worked great. However, when I updated the FW to 3.0.2 the Boxee menu disappeared. I won't do this again, unless someone updated the for FW 3.0.2.

All free hosts have a bandwidth limit. I dobuot you can find a free host that you could download that pic more than a few era a month! Was this answer helpful?
I tried this on FW 3.0.2 and it didn't work. It added a new menu with none of the options listed above. I downgraded the FW to 2.4, followed the tutorial and I'm now downloading Boxee Beta 0.9.20.10708. It seems to be working but, I'll update later after its completed.
I've followed the directions but the atvusb-creator seems to stall when it gets to "copy files to target disk". How long should the copying process take? All I see is this quote and nothing more. The progress bar doesn't move either even after 10 minutes.
Any help would be appreciated.
you don't need to download the atv DMG from here. if you download the creator it will automatically download one. i kept getting errors following these instructions, but when i let the creator independently download DMG no errors and done in less than 2 min!
