Netflix is refreshing its mobile app with a new design built around a vertical discovery experience. It introduces a cleaner interface and a new feature called 'Clips' to help users find something to watch more quickly.
The redesign brings the same focus on simplicity Netflix applied to its TV experience last year to mobile. The new layout features streamlined navigation with a stronger emphasis on visual discovery tailored for phone screens.
Clips functions as a personalized highlight reel. Instead of browsing rows of static thumbnails, users can swipe through short video previews from series, films, and specials. Netflix says the feed is tailored to individual viewing habits, making it easier to decide what to watch in short moments throughout the day.
Several quick actions are built directly into the player. Users can add titles to My List with a tap or share specific scenes with friends via text or social media. The experience also makes it easy to explore personalized recommendations and discover something to watch next.
Netflix plans to expand Clips over time. Future updates will introduce podcasts, live programming, and curated collections organized by genre or specific interests. Chief Product and Technology Officer Elizabeth Stone said the goal is to make the mobile experience as entertaining as what users watch, designed for quick interactions throughout the day.
The redesigned app and Clips feed are available starting today in the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, and South Africa. A broader global rollout will follow in the coming months.
