xAI has officially rolled out Apple CarPlay support for its Grok iOS app, bringing hands-free voice conversations with the AI assistant directly to the vehicle dashboard. The update lets users ask questions, make requests, and interact with Grok while driving.
Before this release, launching the Grok app on a CarPlay-enabled display only showed a placeholder message indicating support was coming soon. While Grok is already integrated into Tesla vehicles, the update now expands availability to a much wider range of cars with CarPlay support.
The rollout follows Apple's introduction of support for third-party conversational voice apps in iOS 26.4. To run on the CarPlay dashboard, developers must obtain a special entitlement from Apple and follow the company's approved interface templates.
Apple continues to place strict limitations on AI apps in CarPlay to reduce driver distraction. Voice apps can display up to four action buttons while active, but they are prohibited from showing text responses or visual imagery tied to user queries.
Grok joins a growing list of AI assistants adopting the new framework, following recent CarPlay integrations from ChatGPT and Perplexity. You can download the Grok app from the App Store at the link below.
