Apple is preparing to improve the visual quality of Genmoji and Image Playground in iOS 27 as the company continues expanding its Apple Intelligence features.
According to Mark Gurman, Apple has upgraded its internal image generation models behind the scenes, resulting in noticeably better quality for generated images and custom emoji.
The improvements will affect both Genmoji and Image Playground, two Apple Intelligence features introduced as part of the company's broader AI push. Genmoji lets users create custom emoji-style characters using text prompts, while Image Playground can generate stylized images directly inside iOS.
Apple is also reportedly making Genmoji more proactive in iOS 27. The feature will be able to suggest premade emoji creations based on commonly used phrases and photos stored in a user's library.
At the same time, Apple is preparing to expand Image Playground beyond its own AI models. Recent reports indicate the company plans to support rival AI image generators inside Apple Intelligence, allowing users to choose third-party models in addition to OpenAI's ChatGPT.
The upgraded image quality is expected to arrive across Apple's built-in AI image tools when iOS 27 launches later this year. Please download the iClarified app or follow iClarified on X, Facebook, YouTube, and RSS for more iOS 27 updates.
