Roku is rolling out its biggest Home Screen update in more than ten years. The redesign focuses on helping viewers find content faster with a more personalized interface and streamlined navigation.
The updated software introduces a new Quick Access row that automatically surfaces frequently used apps and shortcuts near the top of the screen. Roku says the feature is powered by AI and continually adapts based on how users interact with the platform. Users can also manually add or remove apps from the row.
A new Top Picks for You section expands personalized recommendations directly on the Home Screen. Roku says the system draws from billions of possible Home Screen combinations to personalize recommendations for each viewer.
The update also introduces curated browsing hubs called Destinations. These organize content by genres and themes such as comedy, movies, and sports. Roku is also expanding its Subscriptions hub, which brings together recommendations from a user's subscribed streaming services in one place. Search results will adapt based on the destination currently being browsed.
Another new addition is Your Daily Scoop, an AI-powered feed that updates hourly with trending shows, celebrity birthdays, premieres, and other pop culture moments. Selecting a topic opens a dedicated content page tied to that theme.
To create more room for content discovery, Roku redesigned the Home Screen menu into a collapsible sidebar that stays hidden until needed. Frequently used tools such as Continue Watching, Save List, Sleep Timer, and Search are now accessible through updated shortcuts on the main screen.
Roku is also adding a new Roku City tile that launches an interactive version of the platform's popular screensaver. Users can explore the cityscape and access mini-games including Roku City Dash and Daily Trivia.
The new Roku Home Screen begins rolling out today to Roku TVs and streaming devices in the United States, with additional countries expected to follow in the coming months.
