Amazon Unveils AI-Powered Smart Home Toolkit, MCP Integrations for Alexa+

Customers who upgrade to Alexa+ increase their smart home engagement by nearly 50% during the first month, according to Amazon. Building on that momentum, the AI-powered smart home developer toolkit gives manufacturers new ways to expose advanced device capabilities, including features that were not previously supported. Rather than navigating complex settings or memorizing device-specific commands, users simply describe what they want, and Alexa+ maps the request to the appropriate device and function.

For example, a customer with a compatible washing machine can say, "Alexa, my kid's soccer jersey could use a deep clean, but the tag says cold wash only." The assistant automatically configures the washer by selecting the appropriate cycle and settings, including cold-water enzyme activation, an extra rinse, and a low-spin setting. It can also learn customer preferences and suggest routines, such as brewing a favorite coffee when a morning alarm goes off.

The first brands adopting the toolkit include Bosch, Delta, Ecovacs, Eufy, Govee, iRobot, Moen Flo, PetSafe, Pila Energy, SONOFF, Tapo, Twinkly, Whirlpool, and Yale Home.

Service providers are also getting a simpler way to connect with Alexa+ through the Model Context Protocol. Using Alexa+ for Builders, developers can bring their existing MCP servers to the platform, where Alexa+ inspects the server, proposes an integration path, and generates a simulator-ready package. Canva, Cengage, Crystal Dynamics, Headspace, Priceline, Viator, Virgin Atlantic, Weekend, Lyft, and Brightline, FlixBus, and Greyhound through Distribusion are among the first companies planning MCP-based experiences later this year.

Amazon is also bringing Amazon Wallet to Alexa+, letting customers complete eligible purchases using the payment method already saved to their Amazon account. Built on the company's existing payments infrastructure, the feature will be available to brands integrating through the MCP toolkit and Category SDKs. Atom Tickets, Cengage, Fandango, Priceline, and Taskrabbit plan to add Amazon Wallet support this year.

Alexa+ launched nationwide in the U.S. earlier this year and is included with Prime.
