Apple HomeView Could Double as a HomeKit Security Camera [Leak]

Apple's HomeView could use its built-in camera to stream and record security footage through HomeKit Secure Video, according to settings text discovered in HomeView Software 27.2 by @itspdfu.

That would go beyond the camera-viewing features Apple announced, which let the display show feeds from separate cameras. A setup message reads: "Your HomeView can be used as a security camera with HomeKit Secure Video." Apple has not announced this mode, and the discovery does not confirm it will be available at launch.

The settings describe four options: turn the camera off, detect motion without streaming or recording, stream live without recording, or allow both streaming and recording. Separate controls cover when people are home, away, or asleep, using household members' device locations to determine whether anyone is home.

Privacy controls would limit access to home members. A green onscreen light and a sound would signal when someone views the stream or recording begins, while settings changes would trigger notifications. Enabling streaming and recording while people are home would require doing so on HomeView itself. Face recognition, activity zones, and other camera settings would be managed in the iPhone's Home app.

HomeView launches November 13 in tabletop and wall-mounted versions, each priced at $299 in the U.S. The tabletop model is available to pre-order on Amazon. Both have a 7-inch display, FaceTime, Siri AI, and home controls; the HomeView buying guide covers setup requirements and the differences between the two designs.
