Apple Could Launch New Mac mini Ahead of September iPhone Event

Apple is reportedly preparing to unveil its first new Mac mini in nearly two years, with the desktop expected to debut within days and potentially ahead of the company's September iPhone event.



According to a new Bloomberg report, Apple has tested versions of the Mac mini with both M5 and M6 chips. If announced before September 1, it would likely be the last new product to launch under Tim Cook before John Ternus takes over as CEO. An Apple spokesperson declined to comment.


Growing interest in running AI applications locally has helped drive demand for the Mac mini, while ongoing memory-chip shortages have made the current model difficult to keep in stock, with deliveries sometimes slipping weeks or months. Apple has also said Mac mini production will begin at its Houston facility later this year after opening its Advanced Manufacturing Center this month, though it remains unclear whether the upcoming model will be produced there.

The Mac mini is just one of several products Apple is preparing for the second half of the year. AirPods 5 are expected to debut as early as the September event, while a revamped iPad mini with an OLED display is on track to arrive by the end of October. A camera-equipped version of AirPods is now expected next year.

Apple is also preparing its long-rumored smart home device with a screen, alongside a new Apple TV, HomePod mini, and updated Apple Watch models featuring modest fitness tracking improvements, including a ceramic-case option for Series 12. Looking further ahead, the company is developing an iMac with new color options, a refreshed entry-level MacBook Pro with M6, and its first touchscreen MacBook Pro with redesigned enclosures and OLED displays.

Invitations for Apple's iPhone launch event are expected later this week, with the presentation likely to take place on September 9. The event is expected to introduce the company's first foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.
