Apple is preparing the biggest overhaul of the iPad mini in half a decade, with an OLED display model set to be unveiled as early as this fall.
Code-named J510, the updated iPad mini will feature an OLED display for the first time, bringing it in line with the iPhone and current iPad Pro lineup. According to Bloomberg, the company is targeting a release by October. Apple recently raised the tablet's starting price by $100 to $599 as part of broader increases across its product lineup amid industry memory shortages; however, and the move to OLED could push the iPad mini's price even higher.
An updated entry-level iPad, code-named J581, is slated to follow in the first calendar quarter of 2027. Apple will continue using LCD technology for the base model, focusing on a faster processor rather than a major redesign.
The remainder of the tablet lineup is targeted for a spring refresh. New iPad Air models (J807 and J837) will continue to be offered in 11-inch and 13-inch configurations. Apple is also developing an eventual OLED version of the iPad Air, though that model remains further out. Refreshed iPad Pro models and updated versions of the Apple Pencil are planned for the same spring timeframe.
These upcoming tablet releases will follow Apple's expected September hardware event, where the company is anticipated to introduce its first-ever foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Updates to the Apple Watch and multiple Mac computers are also expected before the end of the year.
