Steve Jobs Was Warned About iPhone 4 Antenna Design

A senior antenna expert at Apple warned Steve Jobs early in the design phase that the antenna placement could lead to dropped calls, according to a Bloomberg report.

Last year, Ruben Caballero, a senior engineer and antenna expert, informed Apple's management the device's design may hurt reception, said the person, who is not authorized to speak on Apple's behalf and asked not to be identified. A carrier partner also raised concerns about the antenna before the device's June 24 release, according to another person familiar with the situation.

However, in our experience it isn't the design or placement of the antenna that causes problems. Rather, it is the lack of an electrically insulating layer on the bare metal that is causing an issue.
